When I finished high-school, I didn’t want to go to university or college. I didn’t want to be a student anymore, maybe because I hated the education system. I was looking for some non-government institute or college or something where I could learn something for a profession.

Fortunately, one of my brothers worked in media teaching so he told me that I might be able to find a profession in this sector. I chose to attend the one-year diploma in multimedia journalism. That’s how I came into this journalism world.

I don’t remember specifically because I did a lot of stories as exercises in the class. But I remembered the first one when I went on an internship at Voice of America (VOA) Burmese News, it was about Covid local transmission.

My favorite story? I want to choose almost everything I have done. But I like the latest one I wrote, about the CDM movement in an Oil Refinery. I took the most risk, I took much time to work on it. I saved all the facts I could get, in person and on the Internet as well. I did it in a very difficult situation, I went to a town quite far from my place to talk and know more about the locals. It was the hardest story I worked on because of the soldiers’ presence all around the factory and on the roads but still the best one, I guess.

I currently have a DSLR camera and a laptop that my brother bought for me. I could not afford to buy it because I didn’t get the opportunity to find work at a media company yet. I had to come back home in upper Burma when I finished my one-year diploma course because of the Covid outbreak in June 2020.

A journalist can work in any situation. Even if I only have my smartphone, I can still write a story. But there is a problem though when it comes to producing video stories. My laptop is a basic low quality one and I can’t do video or photo editing with it. But it’s fine to produce text stories.

Personally, I would like more camera lenses to take wildlife or sports shots. That’s my goal and this is quite expensive. But I am saving money for it starting now.

I didn’t know much about the importance of photo or video in journalism before I attended the journalism course. But now I am really into it and I fell in love with photo-journalism.

My goal is to become a photo-journalist. I really love this life and that’s why I save money. For this I have to know more about camera, lenses, try and own several of them. I must get every experience I could get and take wildlife, sports, astrophotography, lifestyle pictures as well.

Let me tell you something, this may be out of reach or too much expectation but I would love to get a job at AFP, EPA, Reuters, or National Geographic.
